Engineered for Safety, Ready for IMO MSC.581(110)

The Marine 5 sets the standard for shipboard multi-gas detection. Equipped to measure the required gases under IMO Resolution MSC.581(110), the Marine 5 combines core 4-gas protection (LEL, H2S, CO, O2) with a dedicated Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) CO2 sensor to safeguard your crew before and during confined space entry.

With carbon dioxide explicitly highlighted as a key safety parameter during enclosed space testing, having reliable, targeted CO2 detection is essential. The Marine 5’s dedicated Infrared sensor delivers rapid ppm readings that remain completely reliable in inerted or oxygen-depleted environments.

Whether sampling cargo tanks or performing routine pre-entry checks, the Marine 5 delivers the accuracy and versatility your vessel requires.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change the gas detection profile on the Marine 5?

You can change the Marine 5 gas detection profile instantly using its “Plug-and-Play” smart sensor technology. Simply insert a new sensor and sensor board into the unit to reconfigure it for different hazards – such as CO2, Benzene, or VOCs – without needing to return the device to the factory or perform complex servicing.

Is the Marine 5 gas detector MED approved for maritime use?

Yes, the Marine 5 is fully MED approved, alongside ATEX, IECEx, and UL 913 certifications. This global compliance ensures the device meets all the international maritime regulations for monitoring standard gases (LEL, H2S, CO, O2) and exotic threats like SO2 and Chlorine in harsh engineroom or deck environments.

Can the Marine 5 detect Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in inert atmospheres?

Yes. The Marine 5 can be configured with a specialised Infrared (IR) Sensor specifically for CO2. IR Sensors are highly resistant to poisoning and deliver precision monitoring in inert atmospheres where other sensors fail.

Does the Marine 5 support both pump and diffusion modes for confined space entry?

The Marine 5 features dual-mode functionality for complete confined space safety. Use Pump Mode with tubing and probe to draw samples for pre-entry testing at all levels, then switch to Diffusion Mode once inside to monitor the user’s breathing zone while maximising battery life during extended shifts.

Does the Marine 5 comply with the new IMO Resolution MSC.581(110) for enclosed space entry?

Yes. The Marine 5 is specifically engineered to meet the regulations such as the safety standard established by IMO Resolution MSC.581(110), which officially replaced resolution A.1050(27) in December 2025. It provides precise ppm (parts per million) monitoring for Carbon Dioxide (CO2) that is now a legal requirement for vessels carrying hazardous or oxygen-depleting cargoes.
