See Your Water in a New Light

A photometer measures how much light passes through a sample to determine the concentration of substances in water. LiquiLab automates this process with digital precision – delivering results that are 5x more accurate than traditional comparator discs.

Light Projection

A focused light source – typically an LED or lamp – emits a specific wavelength through the water sample.

Chemical Reaction

If the sample contains a reagent, it reacts with the target substance to form a coloured compound.

Light Measurement

The photometer measures how much light is transmitted or absorbed by the sample

Concentration Analysis

Higher light absorption indicates a higher concentration of the target substance in the water.

Digital Result Display

The photometer automatically calculates and displays the result as a precise numeric value (e.g., 1.2mg/L of free chlorine)

Instant Cloud Upload

Once testing is complete, results are instantly uploaded to a secure cloud platform via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB. Fleet managers and onshore teams can view readings in real time, monitor compliance, and compare data across vessels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about the LiquiLab Photometer? Check out our frequently asked questions below. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please contact our team using the form at the bottom of the page.

What is a photometer and how is it used in marine water testing?

A photometer is a water analysis instrument that measures how much light is absorbed by a water sample. In marine applications, it’s used to determine the concentration of substances such as chlorine, hardness, and other treatment chemicals, ensuring your water systems remain within safe and efficient limits.

How does the LiquiLab photometer differ from traditional water testing kits?

Unlike manual comparator discs or test kits, the LiquiLab photometer provides digital water testing capabilities and logging. With eighteen parallel wavelengths, the LiquiLab photometer offers readings up to five times more accurate than traditional kits. It also guides crew members stepby-step via a 5.5” HD touchscreen display, reducing the likelihood of errors

What types of water can the LiquiLab photometer test?

The LiquiLab digital water testing kit can be used across multiple applications, including potable, legionella, sewage, ballast, and boiler/cooling water testing. It’s a versatile tool for any vessel aiming to centralise and digitalise water quality management.

How does the photometer help improve data accuracy and compliance?

The system cleverly identifies reagents and test locations using QR scanning to prevent errors, and ensure every test is recorded correctly. Results are securely stored and instantly uploaded to the cloud for full compliance traceability.

Can the LiquiLab photometer test multiple parameters?

Yes – the LiquiLab photometer performs a wide range of optical tests across potable, ballast, sewage, and boiler/cooling water. Using multiple wavelengths, it accurately detects a variety of chemical parameters.
