Why you should have portable gas detection on your vessel
Martek Marine exists to revolutionise ship safety, performance and crew welfare. As a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of marine equipment across the globe – we’re dedicated to making your fleet compliant with safety, environmental, medical, and navigation marine regulations.
Our hassle-free services don’t just stop with the equipment usage; we want to make it as easy, for you, as possible to comply with legislation and even the buying and distribution of our products.
Whilst this applies to all our products within Martek Marine, our gas calibration products are effortless.
What is portable gas detection?
Gas detectors use a sensor to measure the concentration of certain gases in the atmosphere. The sensor serves as a reference point and scale, producing a measurable electric current when a chemical reaction caused by a specific gas occurs. The sensor will monitor these currents and alarm the user when the presence of gas approaches a hazardous amount.
At Martek Marine, we offer various options in portable gas detection options, from single gas detection to a world-first in gas detection.
Not complying with legislation could mean your vessel faces fines or even detention. We want you and your crew to be as safe as possible and enter on hassle-free voyages.
Not only is it easy to use, but Triple-C allows you are your crew to be compliant with the following legislation:
– IMO Regulation XI-1/7 – Atmosphere testing instrument for enclosed spaces in the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea
– MSC Resolution A. 1050(27) – ‘Revised Recommendations for Entering Enclosed Spaces Aboard Ships’
– ExxonMobil MESQA 2010 Requirements
Failure to comply with legislation can result in fatalities. Unfortunately, a vessel called Diversion suffered two deaths in 2019 as a result of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Recently, it was discovered that the boat didn’t have an alarm fitted at the time of the gas leak, meaning the people onboard were not alerted to any danger.
Gas detection will alert your staff and crew of any immediate danger and help you avoid any life-threatening situations.
What is a Single Gas Clip?
Our Single Gas Clip is a reliable portable single gas detector that ensures constant protection against toxic gas in the harshest of working conditions.
With unmatched sensor reliability for H2S, O2 or CO is lightweight and durable and comes with no hidden charges or maintenance fees.
Single Gas Clip is quick and easy to use, much like our other portable gas detection solutions.

What is Triple-C?
Triple-C is a world first in portable gas detection.
The Triple-C rivals all existing portable gas detectors with its cutting-edge infrared LEL sensor technology, making it immune from sensor poisoning and drift.
Triple-C gets its name as it requires no calibration, no charging and no costs. However, if your company does require calibration, the detector is completely customisable and can be completed with the optional calibration station.
It is the first and only portable gas detector designed with 3 years of battery life and up to 90 seconds of alarm each day, meaning you never need to charge it or worry that the detector is not ready for the job. There’s no need to worry about maintenance or spares replacement again. The Triple-C comes with a lifetime warranty, so you can operate safely knowing that any issues will be resolved quickly and free of charge.
It’s the toughest portable gas detector on the planet, capable of operating in any situation. The IP68 rating means it’s safe from the finest dust and can even be submerged 1.5m underwater without impacting performance. It will even work in Zone 0 (flammable) environments and a completely inert (oxygen-free) environment. Data and accountability are essential in the event of an investigation.
The Triple-C will record data at 1-second intervals as well as the last 25 bump tests over the last 2 months. It’s completely customisable – sensor and alarm levels can be adjusted to suit the role required, and each device can be digitally assigned to a crew member or department.
Triple-C is quick and easy to use. Once it’s unboxed, it is ready to go and doesn’t require training, meaning all crew members will be able to use it.

Why is gas detection onboard vessels important?
Gas detection for vessels detects the presence of gases on ships. It can be used to detect gas leaks, measure gas levels, detect gases that are dangerous, and if certain spaces onboard your ship is safe to enter.
Not only is gas detection potentially lifesaving, but it will also save your vessel from costly fines and possible detention.
