Keeping your vessels compliant is a mission on its own, but that’s not enough any more. The environmental wake of your choices is far more visible than it’s ever been so there’s absolutely no excuses for grey water here – you want total transparency on what you’re buying, and the impact it has on the world.
Which is why you need Martek Marine. We’re now well into our third decade of disrupting, innovating and revolutionising the marine industry, pioneering sustainable solutions for ship safety, performance and crew welfare.
Because our passionate founders Paul, Mike and Steve were told back in 1999 by their employers that their ideas were no good, and thankfully, they didn’t listen. Like ‘Alchemists Of The Deep’, they quit, and took their tiny budget and an obsession with attracting and developing talented people, and turned £6,000 into over £100 million in sales so far.
The alchemy here involved a blend of blood, sweat, tears and a strong commitment to building a sustainable and profitable business – all whilst continuing to operate responsibly with honesty, integrity and fairness as we grew.
Those ‘terrible’ ideas of theirs created a global company which has supplied over 30,000 shipsets of equipment to the world’s major ship operators in more than 80 countries. We employ over 60 highly valued staff, winning Investors in People (Gold) and the Institute of Customer Service accreditations, we have ISO 9001 and have won two Queen’s Awards.
Just in case you’re wondering why we’re so proud of the latter awards, let us share with you what that means:
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is an awards programme for British businesses and other organisations who excel at international trade, innovation, sustainable development or promoting opportunity. They are the highest official UK awards for British businesses.
Maybe those original ideas weren’t so bad after all?!
We’ve had our mettle well and truly tested. That initial thread of passion and commitment that led three men to act on what they believed in, still stands at the core of who we are. Speak to any of our staff and you’ll find real people who are well and truly part of the Martek Marine ecosystem.
We are constantly innovating and updating processes to understand and address our responsibilities in respect of our operational impacts on the environment, as well as being a highly profitable asset to our economy. We are not just committed to conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner…
We’ve built our business on standing out and getting noticed – for all of the right reasons. In 2019, after being acquired by the James Fisher Group of companies, Martek Marine integrated its existing services with an extensive range of marine services for high integrity industries worldwide. James Fisher and Sons plc is a leading provider of specialised services to the marine, oil and gas and other high assurance industries worldwide.
Besides the many awards we have won, we were also consulted by the IMO during the drafting of IMO Regulation XI-1/7. We don’t take anything for granted though – we’re always moving forwards, but it’s our solid approach to all that we do that makes us so trustworthy.
Corporate responsibility remains central to delivering our strategy and continuing our success of providing world-class marine protection technology for decades.
Our strategic and financial objectives define our commitment to establishing high ethical standards of behaviour and effective corporate governance. We know how many hoops you have to jump through to keep your vessels safe and compliant. Through our foresight and innovation, you can revolutionise your own ship safety, performance and crew welfare.
We’re extremely proud to say we’ve been respected and admired by our peers and competitors from the outset. Our dominance in the industry has gone from strength to strength through our products and services being actively sought out by shipping companies who achieve major operational gains using them. And they keep coming back.
We attract the best talent with regular feedback that they love what they’re doing. We know you can’t keep a buoyed employee down – they want to innovate and improve products, they can’t help but to contribute and they definitely keep coming back.
Big or small, local or global, our growth rate enables us to meet your needs, whilst also delivering strong profits to give everyone a huge amount of security. You can’t build a global company of this size without investment in the foundations of it, and a large amount of our success has been down to the relationships we forge. We value them. Whether you’re a current or prospective customer, an employee, supplier or partner – we put you first because we want you to like what you see so that we can look forward to you coming back too.
Our success is driven by being preeminent and standing out in our market. Our innovations enable our customers to revolutionise ship safety, performance and crew welfare. We’re inspired to make a difference to our customers’ businesses every day. We continue to grow at a rate many companies would die for, whilst also delivering strong profits to give everyone massive security. We’re looking for 250% growth by the end of 2025 and if you get on board with us, your achievements will help us get there – it’s going to be one hell of a party when we make it!
