06/03/2009 - MariNOx™ Satellite Reporting of Ship Emissions Hailed a Success

Martek Marine ltd have announced its new real time satellite reporting of ship emissions as a success. It has been proven onboard a VLCC operating between West Africa and the Gulf and gives an array of emissions data over the internet.

The MariNOx™ system was the world’s first on-board NOx, SOx & CO2 emissions monitoring system and remains the overwhelming market leader.  The development and successful implementation of the satellite emissions reporting is another example of how Martek are constantly looking to develop both their existing products and new products in order to provide customers with innovative systems that make their operations easier, safer and more cost effective.

The system provides operators with detailed reporting, recording and trending data through the onboard MariNOxdatalink software. This data is in turn transmitted from the vessel via a dedicated GPS transmitter. The emissions data can then be accessed via a website by technical superintendents and other interested parties.

The vessel in question provides daily instantaneous NOx in grammes per kiloWatt hour (g/kWh), instantaneous CO2 (%), SOx represented as sulphur in fuel percentage. In addition totalisation of NOx in tonnes is updated daily per voyage.

Steve Coulson, Marketing Director at Martek commented:

“Once again we have taken MariNOx further away from a simple compliance product by adding value to the customer. Ship owners can be in control of their emissions data 24/7 and make decisions on environmental impact and be confident they are in compliance before their vessels enter ECA’s.”
