LIFEFORCE Marine AED, the only defibrillator Type Approved for marine use.

16/05/2008 - MARTEK LAUNCH LIFEFORCE® - THE WORLD'S ONLY TYPE APPROVED MARINE AED

Martek Marine Ltd has added a brand new product to the ever increasing range of safety and environmental monitoring systems that they provide for the world marine community. This week has seen the official launch of the LIFEFORCE® Marine Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Around 3 million people die from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) each year worldwide. It is the world’s biggest killer and can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. You are at a higher risk from SCA if you are a victim of asphyxiation (drowning, choking, etc); are a victim of electrocution; have an impact or trauma to the chest; have previously suffered a heart attack or heart disease; have a family history of heart problems; or have unknown heart problems.

The only treatment for SCA is defibrillation. It’s a race against time. Survival rates drop by 10% for every minute without defibrillation. After 10 minutes, the chances of survival are extremely small. With an AED onboard, defibrillation can take place within 3 minutes and average chances of survival are drastically increased by up to 70%. Without an AED onboard, the chances of survival are nil.

While AEDs have been around for a few years Martek are the first company to have their product rigorously tested to ensure that it is suitable for use in the hostile marine environment. The LIFEFORCE® AED was tested by Germanischer Lloyd and received Type Approval for use by crew onboard ship.

The unit is very simple to operate and can be used by non-medical personnel. With clear voice prompts to guide the rescuer through the steps involved in saving someone’s life, and only two buttons to press, it is designed for use by anyone.

The LIFEFORCE® AED is self-contained with pre-connected pads and a lit status indicator. A computer inside the unit analyses the patient’s heart rhythm and determines if a shock is required to save the victim. If a shock is required, the AED uses voice instructions to guide the user through saving the person’s life.

Now there is something that can be done to improve the odds for crew and in some cases customers, a solution that is easy to use and inexpensive to buy.

Durable, cost-effective, low-maintenance, and easy to use LIFEFORCE® Marine AED is perfectly suited for the unique needs of modern vessels.

The LIFEFORCE® AED is available in 3 separate packages to suit your needs:

LIFEFORCE® Silver Package – LIFEFORCE® AED, 2 pairs of adult pads and carrycase.
